To solve the flooded problem a major drainage system was designed for a fifty year return period of rainfall event.
The Urora site is located approximately 10km to the North east of centre of Benin city-Ehor, Ekpoma and Auchi road. The flood problem in Urora can be traced to the fact that the area has a very flat topography, and the presence of low-lying areas with absence of storm water drainage, thus leaving portions of the area frequently flooded.
To solve the flooded problem a major drainage system was designed for a fifty year return period of rainfall event. To reduce peak floors attenuation ponds were provided, with each pond connected to each other via underground culverts of various dimensions.
