Who We Are

The Edo State Flood, Erosion, and Watershed Management Agency (Edo FEWMA) was established as the State’s principal agency for climate change mitigation, flood and erosion control, catchment and watershed management, and other environmental challenges.

The Agency was Established with the mandate to mitigate the adverse effects of floods, erosion, and environmental degradation, EDOFEWMA operates under the guidance of the Edo State Government. We are committed to safeguarding lives, property, and the environment through proactive measures and sustainable solutions.

The intervention of the NEWMAP project provided an excellent opportunity for the Edo State government to form an agency to sustain the gains of intervention in degraded regions and assure continuity in addressing flood and erosion challenges in the State after the project in June 2022.

Vision

Our vision is to have a resilient and sustainable environment in Edo State, where communities thrive in harmony with nature, free from the devastating effects of floods and erosion. We want to build an Integrated Flood Management system that is aimed at reducing degraded land in Edo State.

Mission

Our mission is to reduce the impact of floods, erosion, and watershed degradation in Edo State by implementing effective strategies, fostering community resilience, and promoting environmental stewardship. We also strive to work in motivated, goal-oriented teams in alliance with other government sectors, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and other partners to improve health.

Responsibilities

EDOFEWMA is entrusted with a range of responsibilities, including:

Conducting comprehensive assessments of flood and erosion-prone areas

Implementing infrastructure projects for flood and erosion control

Educating communities on disaster preparedness and environmental conservation

Collaborating with stakeholders to develop and enforce regulations for sustainable land use and water management

Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of mitigation measures

What We Do

We work tirelessly to fulfill our responsibilities by:

Conducting thorough research and analysis to identify vulnerable areas

Designing and implementing engineering solutions for flood and erosion control

Engaging in community outreach and awareness campaigns

Partnering with government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations to leverage resources and expertise

Advocating for policies and initiatives that promote sustainable development and environmental protection
