Welcome to the NEWMAP Projects page, where we showcase the transformative initiatives undertaken by the Edo State Flood, Erosion, and Watershed Management Agency (EDOFEWMA) in partnership with the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP). Our projects represent a collaborative effort to address the challenges of floods, erosion, and watershed degradation in Edo State, ultimately promoting environmental sustainability and community resilience.
Discover the genesis of our NEWMAP projects, which began as interventions aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of environmental degradation in Edo State. As part of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), these initiatives provided crucial support to communities facing the impacts of floods and erosion.
The intervention of NEWMAP projects provided an excellent opportunity for the Edo State Government to establish the Edo State Flood, Erosion, and Watershed Management Agency (EDOFEWMA). Recognizing the need to sustain the gains of intervention in degraded regions and ensure continuity in addressing flood and erosion challenges, the government took proactive steps to institutionalize efforts through the establishment of EDOFEWMA.
At the conclusion of the NEWMAP projects in June 2022, EDOFEWMA emerged as a key player in sustaining the progress achieved and addressing ongoing environmental challenges. With a mandate to safeguard lives, property, and the environment, EDOFEWMA continues to build upon the foundation laid by NEWMAP, ensuring the continuity of efforts to combat floods, erosion, and watershed degradation in Edo State.
Reflect on the legacy of NEWMAP projects and their lasting impact on the communities and landscapes of Edo State. From infrastructure improvements to community capacity building initiatives, these projects have left a positive imprint on the environment and empowered communities to better withstand the effects of natural disasters.
Look ahead to the future as EDOFEWMA outlines its strategic priorities and plans for future interventions. Building upon the successes of NEWMAP projects, we remain committed to implementing sustainable solutions, fostering community resilience, and promoting environmental stewardship across Edo State.
